Shashi Tharoor Pens Heartfelt Tribute to “Immortal” Virat Kohli After Test Retirement Announcement

adminBy adminMay 13, 2025

As the cricketing world came to a standstill with Virat Kohli’s shocking announcement of his retirement from Test cricket, tributes poured in from fans, former players, and political leaders alike. Among the most poignant messages came from Congress MP and acclaimed author Shashi Tharoor, who took to social media to pen a moving post celebrating Kohli’s legacy.

Describing Kohli as “immortal in the annals of Test cricket,” Tharoor’s post struck a chord with millions, blending his signature eloquence with genuine admiration for the legendary Indian batter.

“He redefined intensity. He made Test cricket thrilling in an age of T20 spectacles. Virat Kohli didn’t just play the game—he embodied it. As he steps away from the red-ball format, his name will continue to echo in every stadium that once roared his name.”

Tharoor praised Kohli not only for his incredible statistics—8,848 runs in 113 Tests at an average of over 49—but for his passion, leadership, and fierce competitiveness that reignited global interest in the longest format of the game.

“He brought fire to the whites, pride to the crest, and belief to a generation,” Tharoor wrote. “An aggressive commander who marshalled India to historic Test victories overseas—from Australia to England. His era marked a renaissance in Indian fast bowling and fearless cricket.”

The author-politician, known for his love of cricket and literary flair, also referenced Kohli’s legacy beyond the numbers.

“His cover drive was poetry, his aggression was theatre, and his fitness—revolutionary. He taught us that tradition and modernity can walk hand in hand.”

Fans across social media platforms widely shared Tharoor’s post, with many calling it a “fitting tribute” to the man who wore his heart on his sleeve every time he stepped onto the field.

Though Kohli will continue to represent India in white-ball cricket, his departure from Tests marks the end of a golden era. As the cricketing world begins to process the void he leaves behind, Tharoor’s words capture a sentiment shared by billions: “Thank you, Virat, for reminding us what Test cricket can be—timeless, tireless, and truly immortal.”
