Operation Sindoor: India’s Policy Against Terror – The New Normal, Says PM Modi

adminBy adminMay 13, 2025

In a landmark statement that underscores India’s evolving stance on national security, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has declared that “Operation Sindoor is not an exception—it is the new normal.” This powerful assertion came during his address at a high-level security conclave in New Delhi, where he outlined a bold, zero-tolerance approach toward terrorism both within India and beyond its borders.

What Is Operation Sindoor?
Launched in early 2025, Operation Sindoor was a swift and strategic military campaign targeting terrorist launchpads and infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, named after the sacred red vermillion symbolizing sacrifice and protection in Indian culture, was initiated following the brutal killing of five Indian soldiers in a cross-border terror ambush in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch sector.

Within 72 hours, elite units of the Indian Army and Air Force launched coordinated airstrikes and ground assaults, neutralizing multiple terror camps and eliminating high-value militant targets. The operation sent a strong message: India will no longer wait or warn—it will act.

PM Modi’s Vision: From Strategic Restraint to Strategic Response
In his speech, PM Modi said,

“Gone are the days when India practiced strategic restraint while our enemies waged proxy wars. Operation Sindoor is our response to those who test our patience. Every life of a soldier is precious. This decisive action is our tribute to their courage.”

He emphasized that India’s national security policy has undergone a fundamental shift—from reactive to preemptive, from defensive to offensive. Terror safe havens across the border, the PM stated, are now being treated as legitimate targets if they pose a threat to Indian lives and interests.

Political and Public Support
Operation Sindoor has received overwhelming support from across the political spectrum and the Indian public. While opposition parties raised questions about the timing and long-term diplomatic implications, most backed the government’s commitment to protecting national security.

On social media, #OperationSindoor trended for days, with citizens lauding the armed forces for their swift response and expressing solidarity with the families of the martyred soldiers.

International Reaction
The global reaction has been mixed. While countries like the United States, France, and Israel supported India’s right to self-defense, others such as China and Turkey expressed concern over the potential escalation in South Asia. Pakistan, as expected, denied the existence of any terror camps in PoK and accused India of violating international norms—a claim firmly rejected by the Indian government.

India also mounted a diplomatic offensive, presenting detailed satellite imagery and intelligence to key UN Security Council members, reinforcing the legitimacy of its actions.

The Road Ahead
PM Modi’s declaration of Operation Sindoor as “the new normal” signals a doctrinal shift in India’s counter-terror strategy. This approach includes:

Cross-border precision strikes on terror infrastructure

Expanded surveillance and intelligence sharing with friendly nations

Strengthening of domestic counter-terror laws

Increased military presence in sensitive border zones

India is also working to modernize its defense arsenal and enhance cyber capabilities to pre-empt threats in both physical and digital domains.

Conclusion
With Operation Sindoor, India has drawn a red line—both symbolically and militarily. PM Modi’s strong message leaves no ambiguity about India’s stance on terrorism: talks and terror cannot go hand in hand, and perpetrators will face immediate consequences.

As the global fight against terrorism continues, India’s new doctrine may well serve as a template for democracies around the world battling state-sponsored extremism. For now, one thing is clear: the era of strategic silence is over. Operation Sindoor is the new normal.
