Actor Ranjeet Reveals Madhuri Dixit Was Terrified to Shoot With Him: ‘Never Touched Her’

adminBy adminMarch 20, 2025

Veteran Bollywood actor Ranjeet, known for playing iconic villainous roles in the 1970s and 1980s, recently revealed that actress Madhuri Dixit was once terrified to shoot a scene with him. In a candid interview, Ranjeet recalled how his on-screen image as a ruthless villain led Madhuri to feel apprehensive about filming with him.

Madhuri’s Fear and Ranjeet’s Assurance

Ranjeet, whose real name is Gopal Bedi, shared that Madhuri Dixit had grown up watching his films, where he often portrayed menacing characters known for harassing heroines. This deeply ingrained perception made her nervous when they had to shoot together. “Madhuri was quite scared of me. She had seen my films and thought I would do something villainous even in real life,” he said.

However, Ranjeet reassured Madhuri that he was far different from his on-screen persona. He recalled telling her, “I am not like what you see in the movies. I respect women, and I have never misbehaved with any of my co-stars.” To further ease her anxiety, he even made sure to maintain a comfortable distance while filming. “I never touched her. I wanted her to feel safe,” he added.

Ranjeet’s Villainous Legacy in Bollywood

Ranjeet became a household name for playing negative roles in classic Bollywood films like Sharmeelee (1971), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Laawaris (1981), and Namak Halaal (1982). His imposing screen presence and sinister roles often made audiences believe that he was just as fearsome in real life. However, in multiple interviews, Ranjeet has clarified that he was quite the opposite off-screen. Many co-stars, including Hema Malini and Zeenat Aman, have also vouched for his professionalism and respectful nature.

Bollywood’s Changing Dynamics

Reflecting on how the industry has evolved, Ranjeet mentioned that while villainous roles like his were once a staple of Bollywood, modern films have moved away from stereotypical bad guys. “Back then, villains had a strong presence. Today, the concept has changed, and there is more nuance in storytelling,” he said.

Madhuri Dixit’s Journey in Bollywood

Madhuri Dixit, who made her Bollywood debut in Abodh (1984), went on to become one of the biggest superstars of Indian cinema. Her collaboration with top actors and her impeccable dance performances cemented her legacy. While she initially felt uneasy working with Ranjeet, she later understood that he was nothing like his on-screen roles.

Final Thoughts

Ranjeet’s revelation sheds light on how actors’ screen personas can sometimes impact their real-life interactions. His story with Madhuri Dixit serves as a reminder of the fine line between reel and real life in Bollywood. Despite playing some of the most feared villains in Indian cinema, Ranjeet has always maintained a reputation for being a gentleman off-screen.
